The world's only Adjustable Gastric Balloon
The Spatz3® Adjustable Intragastric Balloon is a soft, silicone balloon which is inserted into your stomach attached to an endoscope through your mouth before being inflated with blue dyed saline.
The Spatz3® gastric balloon can stay in your stomach for up to 12 months and can be adjusted in size if needed.
The Spatz3 balloon is a FDA approved and the only adjustable balloon in the World.
The Spatz3® balloon helps you lose weight by inducing early satiety.
It is placed in the stomach and occupies approximately one-third of the stomach’s volume. This causes the stomach to empty very slowly, keeping food in longer than usual.
Volume-Adjust Up
Stomach gets used to the balloon and Gastric Balloons lose efficiency by the 4th month on average.
Spatz3 patients can have the balloon volume increased, when needed, to help prevent weight regain and to maximize weight loss.
Volume-Adjust Up is done between the 4th and 6th months, to achieve better weight loss results.
Volume-Adjust Down
Ordinary gastric balloon patients sometimes face early extraction due to intolerance.
With the Spatz3 Adjustable Gastric Balloon, patients can decrease the volume of the balloon to alleviate balloon intolerance.
Who Is It For?
An intragastric balloon may be an option for you if:
- You have not been able to lose weight through diet and exercise.
- You're willing to commit to healthy lifestyle changes, get regular medical follow-up and participate in behavioral therapy
- You have not had any previous stomach or esophageal surgery
What Can You Expect?
During The Procedure
The balloon insertion is a 20-minute procedure done in a day hospital. You will be sedated and the deflated balloon will be placed into your stomach via an endoscope through your mouth. It will then be inflated through a port on the balloon. You can expect to be at the hospital for 1-2 hours including the procedure and recovery.
After 12 months, the Spatz3® balloon is removed through the mouth in a similar way as it was placed.
After The Procedure
You may be able to take only liquids for 3-4 days, progressing to soft food and then, after 2 weeks, to solid food.
You should be able to return to work after 1 to 2 days, depending on how soon your stomach settles and your type of work.
Regular exercise should help you to return to normal activities as soon as possible. You should be able to start exercising again after a week.
Gastric balloon is a minimally invasive procedure with minimal complications. The Gastric balloon procedure is generally safe but as with any procedure complications may occur and can include:
- Esophageal or gastric ulcers or perforation
- Deflation of the balloon which can lead to blockage.
- Should the balloon rupture, the dye will be released and color the urine green
Stomach cramps and nausea affect about one-third of people soon after insertion of an intragastric balloon. Approximately 1 out of 10 patients face early extraction due to intolerance. The Spatz3 alleviates this intolerance by volume adjustment down and successfully reduces the rate of early extractions.
Results
You can expect 20% reduction in your total body weight. Volume-Adjust Up needs to be done between the 4th and 6th months, to achieve better weight loss results. Studies showed that upward adjustment, used to forestall weight loss plateau, facilitated an additional 5.2% total body weight loss. According to this study Spatz3 adjustable balloon offers the highest weight loss results compared with non-adjustable balloons in the market.
